  10.        This release note describes patch SG0000604 to IRIX 5.3.

  12.        1.1  _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__H_a_r_d_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s

  14.        This patch contains bug fixes for all hardware platforms.

  18.        This patch contains bug fixes for IRIX 5.3.  The software
  19.        cannot be installed on other configurations.

  21.        1.3  _B_u_g_s__F_i_x_e_d__b_y__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_0_6_0_4

  23.        This patch includes fixes for command bugs which are found
  24.        on running the MIPS ABITS (Implementation Conformance Test
  25.        Suite (release 1.3b) ) on 5.3.  The MIPS ABITS consists of
  26.        the VSX4 tests which are executed in the XPG3 mode and some
  27.        processor specific ABI tests. This is a patch for the MIPS
  28.        ABI reference platform(execution environment).
  29.  
  30.        Descriptions of fixes in this patch include bug numbers from
  31.        the Silicon Graphics bug tracking system for reference.
  32.  
  33.           +o The basename command was modified to print a dot when a
  34.             NULL string is passed to it as an argument. i.e
  35.             basename "". This is a fix for a MIPS ABI problem(bug
  36.             279531).
  37.  
  38.           +o The make command with the "-t" option prints the
  39.             information messages to the standard error instead of
  40.             the stdout. Fixed the file make/doname.c to correct the
  41.             problem. This is a fix for a MIPS ABI problem(bug
  42.             279542).

  44.           +o The find command with the "fstype" option prints an
  45.             extra line for every file it finds in the output. This
  46.             is a MIPS ABI problem(bug 279539).
  47.  
  48.           +o Fixed the pr command for the option "-l <length>" which
  49.             used to output a form feed at the end of every file
  50.             passed to it as an argument when the value of length
  51.             was <= 10. This is a MIPS ABI problem(bug 279532).

  53.           +o The  lp command does not work with the "-d printername"
  54.             option. Fixed the problem with the parsing of the
  55.             command line arguments. This is a fix for a MIPS ABI
  56.             problem(bug 279731).

  85.        Because you want to install only the patches for problems
  86.        you have encountered, patch software is not installed by
  87.        default. After reading the descriptions of the bugs fixed in
  88.        this patch (see Section 1.3), determine the patches that
  89.        meet your specific needs.

  91.        If, after reading Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of these release
  92.        notes, you are unsure whether your hardware and software
  93.        meet the requirements for installing a particular patch, run
  94.        _i_n_s_t.
  95.  
  96.        Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
  97.        software product.  Follow the instructions in your _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
  98.        _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot
  99.        form of the software installation tools.

  101.        Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:

  103.          1.  At the Inst>prompt, type

  116.              incompatible.  If this occurs, you must deselect one
  117.              of the patches.

  143.        To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
  144.        would for any other software subsystem.  The removal process
  145.        reinstates the original version of software unless you have
  146.        specifically removed the patch history from your system.
